ok i know this should be in other fords but the forum is locked and i dont know how to get in there to post.

car - NF2 fairlane .. engine - 5.0l windsor V8
problem - idle surge .. hard to start/crank .. once it fires
it blows black smoke for a minute then the idle is all over the place searching and surging.
engine develops power ok. revs ok.
have replaced 02 sensors and redone the idle (disconnect battery and wait 20 mins - disconnect idle motor etc)
have had car to local ford dealer. they couldnt fix it. told me it was the fuel pump and to hand over $700 to install one. im not convinced. no apparent vaccuum leaks. car is also on gas. does not idle surge on gas but is still hard to start. fuel injectors are the next item but any advice or help?
