I'm putting one of these lumps from the mk3 astra into my escort. Due to the rules i have to use a distributor(engine cam with crank fire) is there anyway i cud use a distributor. What other things can i do to gain more power but still keep it with in the rules.
"1. Class open for 2 - 4 valve per cylinder, 4 cylinder engines between 0 – 1600 cc. Engines with variable valve timing will not be allowed. Forced induction will not be allowed. 2. Camshafts are only allowed for 2 and 3 valve per cylinder engines. 3. Valve sizes must remain standard. 4. Engine internals must remain standard. 5. Porting and polishing of the head will be allowed. 6. Weight limits will be as follows – · For a conventional 2 or 3 valve engines 0 – 1300cc 740 kg · For a conventional 4 or more valve engines 0 – 1300cc 780 kg · For engines 1301cc – 1600cc add 0.5 lb/cc for 8 valve engines and 0.8 lb/cc for 16 valve to the respective class limit above for each cc above 1300 - 1600cc. 7. Exhaust manifolds and systems are free. 8. Fuel injection will not be permitted. 9. Inlet manifolds and carburetion is free. Carburetor throat size is limited to 36 mm. 10. Maximum rim diameter is 14” X 7” 11. Maximum tire width is 185. 12. Tire specification: i. Only locally available, standard production road tyres available to all competitors with a wear rating of 140 or greater will be allowed in this group for tarmac events. Loose event tyres are free. Loose tyres must not be used on tarmac events. No tampering with tyres is allowed including grooving or application of chemicals. 13. Differentials and final drive ratios are free. 14. Only 4 and 5 speed gearboxes will be allowed. 15. Only standard production gearboxes will be allowed. Adaptor or sandwich plates/modifications to the bell housing/modifications to the block will be allowed for fitting of the gearbox. 16. Gearbox internals must remain standard. The use of up-rated or close ratio gear kits is not permitted. 17. Braking systems are free. 18. The ignition coil(s), condenser, distributor, interrupter and plugs are free and aftermarket ignition systems will be allowed (e.g. MSD 6AL or similar approved). 19. Engine management will not be allowed (e.g. mapped ignition systems, fully programmable ECUs). 20. Suspension is free."
Ps.I would like the standard engine specs(not bhp), if anyone has them. thanks.
